4.How to select refractory bricks for cement rotary kiln
1.The refractory brick is selected according to production method and types of kiln. For example, that the refractory material is used in rotary kiln is different from rotary kilns and shaft kilns. The high refractoriness, high temperature under loads and high strength of refractory bricks are required for rotary kilns because the temperature in burning zone of rotary kiln is higher (1700~1800℃)and its body rotate continuously. But the requirements for refractory bricks are relatively lower for shaft kilns because its temperature is not so high (around 1500℃)
2. The refractory bricks are selected according to the size of the kilns that have different pressures. The life time of refractory bricks for rotary kiln is inverse ratio with its diameter’s quadratic so in the large-scale kiln the high refractoriness and high strength refractory bricks should be used.
3. The refractory bricks are selected according to characters of raw material and the fuel. In high temperature area of cement kiln especially in the burning zone the high alkali –resistance bricks should be used.  The higher alkali contents the higher attention to.
4. The refractory bricks are selected according to heat load in cement kiln. For new type drying rotary kiln (especially NPC kiln) the heat load is lower then traditional kilns because new suspension preheaters bear a majority of heat load so the requirements for refractory in quality are relatively lower.
5. The refractory bricks are selected according to distribution of stress and heat stress in the inner side of kiln. Ceramic rotary kiln is high temperature calcinations equipment and in which refractory bricks accept heat stress actions.  Especially in the burning zone of kiln body the refractor bricks are pressed by pull tress, press stress and cut stress so the refractory bricks are required for this place having high mechanical strength and heat shock resistance.
5.Refractory bricks for cement rotary kilns
According to refractory material studies, manufacture level and actual experiences the following principles of choice and matching refractory materials for rotary kilns must be kept
1. The alkali bricks including Magnesium Chrome bricks, special grade pure magnesia bricks and dolomite bricks are used in the burning zone and its transitional zone on which of both sides stable kiln crust exist . The high alumina bricks, especially phosphates combined with high alumina bricks can be used in the kilns that are low productivity or start and stop frequently.
2. The spinel bricks are used in transitional zone where kiln crust is not stable or bricks bared. The high alumina bricks, phosphate combined with high alumina bricks also can be used in the transitional zone and in the low capacity rotary kilns.
3. The unstable suspension kiln crust put up in the hot part of decomposing zone because the molten alkali sulphate and molten clinker are produced already. The spinal bricks are used in this part if the bricks weather soon and its working life time are too short. In the other parts of decomposing zone the high alumna bricks should be used especially for the parts where the temperature is lower then 1350 ℃.
The 8 Anti Desquamate high alumina bricks or 9 chemical bond high alumina bricks are used in the big-scale kiln cover, throat of grate cooler and high temperature zone where temperature is above 1250℃. The silica carbon bricks should be used in high temperature side of grate cooler under high wind pressure where the clinker is boiling
4. The anti alkali fire clay bricks and anti alkali castbles should be used in the part of preheating zone, tail part of decomposing zone, per heater and decomposing system, tertiary air duct pipe, medium temperature zone of cooler and all liners where the temperature is lower then 1200℃.
In the some parts for the NSP ( Rotary cement kiln with suspension per heaters) the series anti alkali fire clay bricks can be used. For example, ordinary anti alkali fire clay bricks for preheated body, pyramidal and medium temperature of grate cooler, anti-alkali high strength bricks for tertiary air duct pipe, anti-alkali thermal insulating bricks for tail of kiln, as well as anti-alkali high aluminum bricks and relevant anti alkali castables for vault.
